Another lawyer hits the hot seat for failing to proof his pleadings. Wisconsin lawyer Patrick Hudec was fined $500 and reported to the Bar by a three-judge panel of the appellate court. His errors did go beyond editing: he missed deadlines; filed an incomplete answer at the trial level; and, included “salacious” references about the plaintiff’s relationship with the employer in pleadings.
Hudec has blamed his staff for failing to catch the numerous mistakes. Really. This attorney has been practicing 30 years, people.
Editing. It takes a moment, but can save you a lifetime’s worth of embarassment.
Hat tip to the ABA Journal.
